2010 CHS graduate Tucker Davis has amassed an impressive list
of accomplishments. From being
named an Academic All-Stater, one of only 100 high school seniors across the
state to be so honored, to being both the 2010 Masonic Student of Today and Red Tornado
Boy, to leading his class as a valedictorian, there are not many scholarly
accolades that he has not received.
Davis,
the 18-year-old son of David and Carol Davis, was offered over $157,000 in
college scholarships, although he turned down a $100,000 Presidential Scholar
award to Tulane University. He
will be using the rest of his scholarship funds to attend the University of
Oklahoma, having received an OU Regents Scholarship, an Oklahoma Academic
Scholar award, an AXA Achievement Scholarship, an OU College of Engineering
Distinguished Scholar award, an OU Club of Clinton scholarship, a President’s
Leadership Class scholarship, and a Clinton Public School Foundation
Davis-McElmurry Trust Scholarship.
“I
just really like school,” Davis grinned recently, refusing to name a favorite
class in high school because, as he put it, “I liked them all.” The enjoyment he finds in learning will
be a plus as he pursues his degree in engineering, with a particular emphasis
in biomedical applications. That
interest sprang from the experiences of his youngest brother, Nathan, who has
cardiomyopathy.
In
addition to his scholarly pursuits, Davis was active in the CHS Key Club and
Student Council, and is also a talented trumpet player, recently receiving the
John Philip Sousa and Louis Armstrong scholarship awards as a member of the CHS
band and jazz ensemble. He plans
to continue his musical pursuits in the OU Marching Band. “That’s my first thing at OU,” he
reported, “band auditions in August.
I’m very excited about college and really looking forward to meeting new
people and learning new things!”
