The Academic All-State Awards program was begun in 1987, and
Clinton has had nine other scholars receive the honor: Paige Stratton (1987), Bernie Lin and
Ann Schwartz (1988), Eddie Chen (1992), Andrea Bieberich (1993), Natalie Duncan
(1995), Landon Lorenz (1996), Rachel Wright (2003), and Jordan Graft (2006).
This year’s honorees received a $2,000 scholarship and a
medallion. Shepherd’s scholarship
was provided in part by the Clinton Public School Foundation, which contributed
$1,500 as an Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence Academic All-State Partner.
David L. Boren, chairman and founder of the Oklahoma
Foundation for Excellence, describes the selection of the All-State scholars as
“Oklahoma’s most rigorous academic competition.” To be nominated, students must meet at least one of the
following criteria: an ACT
composite score of at least 30; an SAT combined critical reading and math score
of at least 1350; or selected as a semi-finalist for a National Merit, National
Achievement, or National Hispanic Scholarship.
