Dream Dancing V Washington Elementary music instructor Yvonne Covey was awarded $1500 for the fifth installment of her popular ballroom dancing project.
Reading For Reels Washington Elementary language arts instructors Dana Oliver, Missy Heard, Diane Jones, and Brenda Kimble were awarded $574.18 for their project, a weekly book club aimed at encouraging students to read high-quality literature outside the classroom, with the reward of seeing the corresponding movie.
Above and Beyond Southwest Elementary fourth grade teacher Carla Cruson was awarded $1179.92 for her project, which provides students with hands-on activities in a variety of subjects, from science to art, during a new daily 30 minute enrichment program.
Science Exploration Stations III Washington Elementary science teachers Sha Carpenter, Jason Bengs, Robin Rodriquez, Diane Keeton, Jennifer Mahan, Rhonda Resendez, and Robin Wolfe were awarded $678.65 for the third year of this successful science project, which involves fifth and sixth graders learning about various scientific concepts and then presenting a hands-on science museum to younger elementary students.
Sneek-Peeking Sequoyah Washington Elementary's librarian Betty Flaming and gifted/talented coordinator Donna Rother were awarded $575 for their project, which gives challenge students the opportunity to read and create a video trailer highlighting the 2011 Sequoyah Award nominees.
