Advancing Excellence in Clinton Public Schools

FALL 2008 GRANT AWARDS

The Clinton Public School Foundation awarded five grants, totaling $5213, to Clinton Public School teachers in October 2008.

Just Jump  Nance Elementary's physical education teacher, Eugene Jefferson, was awarded $497 for his project to encourage kindergarten and first grade students to be more physically active through jump rope and long jump trials.

Listening Centers  Christy Stephens, Southwest Elementary's Literary Resource Specialist, was awarded $664 for her project, which will implement listening centers for second, third, and fourth grade students.  CD and book sets will be provided, so that the students can hear fluent reading modeled while following along with the book.

Exploration Stations  Washington Elementary's Sha Carpenter was awarded $1302 for her project, which will provide hands-on scientific experiences for fifth and sixth grade students, who will then share what they've learned with younger elementary students as they host a "science demonstration museum" in the spring of 2009.

Dream Dancing III  Washington Elementary vocal instructor Yvonne Covey and physical education instructors Joe Thomas and Jeff King were awarded $1000 for the third installment of their popular ballroom dancing project for fifth and sixth grade students.

Smart Music  Band instructors Teresa Segress, William Murray, and J.G. Stratton were awarded $1750 for their project, which incorporates technology in the musical classroom.  Utilizing cutting-edge software, Smart Music can be used to project musical scores and exercises on a screen or Smart Board, and can also test and record the students' playing for grading and solo preparation purposes.  Music students -- band and vocal -- from sixth grade to high school will be impacted.
